So, I am a good indicator of TMG problems :)

Your information is a good indicator to evaluate how badly XP was.

I face the same problems everyday and glad no one in TH say about that
truth.

At this moment, I install pure English XP on my son machine so most time
he don't know what to do and click badly on bad pop-up "avira" anti-virus.
In doing so, it delete the files similar to your lost.
Because most time anti-virus cannot dis-infect the viruses and cannot
quarantine them so they delete them and most time made xp to funtions
badly and bad pop-up to dead.

On average in TH xp will be messed up to dead in 3 months.
The way I bring it back in normal in 1 second is by using to retrive
original back-up back. I can do so via internet.

I did so because to find out solution for each problem in xp is big waste
of time. so, when my son has problem I simply using linux to bring
original copy back.

About your problems, if it was on start-up then you can disable some
start-up using control panel --> advance ...
It will has option to turn some unused s/w off.

BUT if it was indispensable program then you have to retrive it back using
linux as I did. Because to install xp again will take year long while it
will damage again in 3 month. So, no way you can stay away from xp
problem.

I recommend you to d/l my super-computer s/w on my web and live peacefully
under old xp w/o need to update it any more.

That is genuine solotion to get rid off xp slavery.
